A home solar PV system is sized from how the household uses electricity, the usable roof, and current Solar ATAP rules — not from a generic panel count. Inhome Solar installs residential rooftop systems across our Peninsular branch network and supports the TNB paperwork that follows.
Service overview
Residential solar in Malaysia is almost always a rooftop photovoltaic array on a landed house: terrace, semi-D or bungalow. The array feeds the home first. Surplus energy may be exported under Solar ATAP if the account is eligible.
The former Net Energy Metering programme is not the current consumer scheme. New residential applications in Peninsular Malaysia are assessed under Solar ATAP, administered by SEDA Malaysia with TNB as the utility.

Process
Site assessment
A visit checks structure, orientation, shading, electrical phase and access. Panel layout is confirmed on the actual roof.
Design and Solar ATAP
System size, equipment and documentation are prepared for SEDA Malaysia / TNB. Approval is not automatic.
Installation and handover
Mounting, modules, inverter, cabling and testing follow the agreed design. Metering and commissioning depend on TNB scheduling.
Equipment and system notes
Quotations in this business can specify inverter brands such as Huawei, GoodWe, Solis, Sungrow, Solax, Hoymiles and Fox, depending on the package.
Catalogue materials currently feature JinkoSolar modules. The exact panel and inverter for a house are confirmed in the quotation, not assumed from marketing pages.
Batteries are optional. Many residential Solar ATAP systems run on-grid without storage.

How much does solar installation cost in Malaysia?

Do I need a battery?
A battery is optional. Many on-grid Solar ATAP systems operate without storage and rely on self-consumption plus export credits. Storage can shift energy into the evening but adds cost and design complexity. It is a site-specific decision.
Do solar panels work during cloudy weather?
Yes. Panels generate from daylight, not only direct sun. Output is lower on overcast days. Malaysia’s tropical climate still produces useful annual generation, but month-to-month figures vary.
