Solar Savings Calculator Malaysia
This calculator estimates a residential solar package from your average monthly TNB bill. It can show indicative system size (kWp), panel count, estimated generation and estimated bill movement, including exported electricity where the model includes it.
Results are estimated and indicative. Actual performance varies depending on roof orientation, shading, system size, electricity consumption, tariff structure, weather conditions and equipment. This is not a quotation and not a guarantee of savings, payback or Solar ATAP approval.
How the estimate relates to your TNB bill
A higher monthly bill usually implies higher consumption, which can support a larger array — until the roof or domestic Solar ATAP capacity rules stop the design. Daytime use matters: energy you consume while the system generates reduces imported kWh. Surplus may be exported under Solar ATAP in the same billing period; unused credit is not banked.
What you will see
- Indicative package size in kWp and a panel count
- Estimated solar generation used in the model
- Estimated TNB bill after solar and estimated bill savings
- Estimated exported electricity where the engine calculates it
Payback figures in the widget use the model’s assumptions. They are not a promise of return. For a commercial site, request a commercial assessment instead of using this residential slider.

Common questions
How much does solar installation cost in Malaysia?
Cost depends on system size (kWp), roof structure, electrical works, equipment choice and current programme fees. Inhome Solar estimates a residential package from the monthly TNB bill in the solar calculator. Treat that figure as indicative, not a fixed quote.
How many solar panels do I need?
Panel count follows usable roof area, panel wattage and the system size that matches your electricity use. A bill-based estimate is a starting point; a site assessment confirms what the roof can actually hold.
Can solar reduce my TNB bill?
Solar used on site can reduce imported electricity. Exported energy may earn a bill credit under Solar ATAP, with different rules for domestic and non-domestic accounts. Unused credit is not carried forward. Actual savings depend on usage pattern, tariff, weather and system size.
Can I export excess solar electricity?
Eligible Solar ATAP consumers can export surplus energy to TNB within programme limits. Domestic credits use the Energy Charge component; non-domestic credits use Average SMP. Excess above imported energy or MAQ in that billing period is forfeited.
