Commercial Solar Malaysia

Commercial rooftop solar is a different problem from a house system. Loads, Maximum Demand, roof area and three-phase supply drive the design. Inhome Solar installs for businesses and supports Solar ATAP as the current Peninsular programme for eligible non-domestic TNB accounts.

Service overview

Factories, warehouses, retail, F&B, offices, hotels and industrial buildings with a dedicated roof and TNB account can be assessed. Photographed Inhome Solar commercial sites include retail in Kuchai, hospitality in Kepong, an auto workshop in Petaling Jaya, a factory in Kepong and supermarket rooftops for CS Pasaraya.

Under Solar ATAP, businesses use generated energy on site first. Eligible export is credited at Average SMP, not at a full retail tariff, and unused credit does not roll to the next bill. Sizing for daytime self-consumption matters.

Process

Consumption and roof survey

Twelve months of bills or Maximum Demand records, single-line diagrams where available, and a roof inspection.

System design

kWp, inverter layout, cable routes and structural checks. Non-domestic Solar ATAP capacity is tied to Maximum Demand and network assessment, up to the programme cap.

Applications

Solar ATAP filing with SEDA Malaysia and TNB interconnection documents. Technical studies such as CCC, CAS or PSS may apply depending on capacity.

Install, test, monitor

Construction, testing and commissioning. Monitoring helps the operations team see generation after handover.

Equipment and system notes

Commercial systems may use string inverters from the quotation brand list, including Huawei and GoodWe, selected for the site.

Roof type — metal deck, concrete, or mixed — changes mounting. We do not assume one structure fits every factory.

Battery storage is a separate design decision and is not required for a grid-connected Solar ATAP system.

Common questions

Can I export excess solar electricity?

Eligible Solar ATAP consumers can export surplus energy to TNB within programme limits. Domestic credits use the Energy Charge component; non-domestic credits use Average SMP. Excess above imported energy or MAQ in that billing period is forfeited.

Can solar reduce my TNB bill?

Solar used on site can reduce imported electricity. Exported energy may earn a bill credit under Solar ATAP, with different rules for domestic and non-domestic accounts. Unused credit is not carried forward. Actual savings depend on usage pattern, tariff, weather and system size.

How long does installation take?

Physical installation on a typical landed home is often measured in days once materials are on site. Solar ATAP application, TNB documentation and metering can add weeks around that work. Timelines vary with authority processing and site complexity.

What is Solar ATAP?

Solar ATAP is the Solar Accelerated Transition Action Programme for Peninsular Malaysia. It replaced Net Energy Metering as the current consumer rooftop programme from 1 January 2026. Homes and businesses use solar first for their own load and may receive bill credits for eligible exported energy in the same billing period.
