Commercial Solar Malaysia Guide

How commercial rooftop solar works in Malaysia for factories, warehouses, retail and offices under Solar ATAP, including Maximum Demand and export credits.

Commercial is not a large house system

Non-domestic accounts use Maximum Demand, three-phase supply and Average SMP for export credit. Copying a residential package onto a factory roof is the wrong model.

Capacity is limited to 100% of Maximum Demand and 1000 kW, and may be reduced by network studies.

Building types

Warehouses and factories often have large metal roofs. Retail and F&B have high daytime loads if they trade in sunlight hours. Offices may be weaker if they are empty at weekends. Hotels and supermarkets (including photographed CS Pasaraya sites) sit in between.

Documentation

SEDA Malaysia and TNB still have to accept the file. Larger kW can require CAS or PSS. Inhome Solar supports the paperwork; the authorities decide.

Common questions

Can I export excess solar electricity?

Eligible Solar ATAP consumers can export surplus energy to TNB within programme limits. Domestic credits use the Energy Charge component; non-domestic credits use Average SMP. Excess above imported energy or MAQ in that billing period is forfeited.

How long does installation take?

Physical installation on a typical landed home is often measured in days once materials are on site. Solar ATAP application, TNB documentation and metering can add weeks around that work. Timelines vary with authority processing and site complexity.
