What Is Solar ATAP Malaysia?
Solar ATAP is Malaysia’s current Peninsular rooftop solar programme: self-consumption first, TNB export credits, SEDA administration, and a 10-year operating period.
The short version
Solar ATAP means Solar Accelerated Transition Action Programme. It started on 1 January 2026 under GP/ST/No. 60/2025. SEDA Malaysia runs the programme. Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is the utility.
You generate solar on your roof, use it in the building, and may receive a bill credit for eligible surplus exported in that billing period. It is not a cash feed-in tariff.
Why the name matters
Older articles still talk about NEM as if it were the live product. For new Peninsular applications, plan around Solar ATAP. If you already have NEM, switching is a contract change, not an automatic rename.

What ATAP is for
Use Solar ATAP when you want a grid-connected rooftop PV system on an eligible TNB account in Peninsular Malaysia. Generation is used on site first. Export is a bill credit for that billing period, not a cash tariff and not a bank of unused kWh.
Domestic default maxima in the current guideline are 5 kW on single phase and 15 kW on three phase. Non-domestic capacity is tied to Maximum Demand, up to 1000 kW, and can be reduced after network studies.

What is Solar ATAP?

Can I export excess solar electricity?
Eligible Solar ATAP consumers can export surplus energy to TNB within programme limits. Domestic credits use the Energy Charge component; non-domestic credits use Average SMP. Excess above imported energy or MAQ in that billing period is forfeited.
